I realize its been awhile since I've posted anything. I've been pretty busy with work (big surprise, eh?) and stuff with the FD. Had a crazy morning in Boone the other day, several calls just before noon. Actually had to bounce from one call straight to the next for about 3 calls in a row.
Got my new gear in Boone so I'm just waiting for a good structure fire so I can get it broke in a little bit and get it a little dirty (its too clean...)
Main reason I haven't posted anything recently is because I'm never really sure what I can and can't post. I know what I can legally say and things like that but its more what I "should" say I suppose that hangs me up. A lot of things have been getting pretty frustrating from several angles and things I used to enjoy just aren't as much fun anymore. I shouldn't really say much more but I feel like I'm being pushed in a direction that I don't want to go in and having opportunities taken away from me just because I'm decent at other things. I can manage that to an extent but when opportunity after opportunity go by it gets more and more frustrating. I don't like the feeling of doors being closed on me time after time after time...

Norms crisis
Well since my last post I've worked 5 shifts on my new floor. I've found myself in what we call a "norms crisis" meaning things aren't the way I'm used to and I'm torn on how to address it or to what extent I should address it. A lot of things I think are going to have to go by the wayside for now. I don't really want to go into a whole lot of detail just because I don't want to spend too much time worrying about it on my day off.
Had a fun shift in Boone yesterday. Lots of calls (6 total in a 24hr shift). All medical calls except a fire alarm at 5am this morning. I actually got to drive to a few calls yesterday which hasn't happened too often. Most of the time there are plenty of us responding so the officer can focus on his stuff but yesterday it was just the two of us so he let me drive. Not gonna lie, I was pretty excited. Got to go lights and siren. Lots of little kids waving at us.
So maybe this isn't a good idea but I'm putting my name in for a few other spots at the Academy, not sure I really have much of a chance at either. One would be doing individual counseling and family counseling, the other would be some individual counseling but also some case management type stuff. Could be a good step towards being a casemanager in the future. And it sounded like they might even let me leave for fire/medical calls if I picked up that one. Like I said, I'm not terribly convinced I'll get it but I really think I'd love it. Get to do more on the treatment side of things and interact with students on an individual basis. Cross your fingers...

New beginnings...
This doesn't really fit in with what I was going to talk about but we had a call this morning to the Resource Center for a patient "not breathing" aka, CPR in progress. Not really how I had planned to start my day.
Anywho, tonight I start on my new dorm. I'm curious to see how its going to go. I'm sure it will be fine but its hard to get excited about it. I found out last night (through other people) that I didn't get the other job I put in for. I had a strong feeling I wasn't going to get it (for reasons that will go unsaid) but still it would have been nice. I'm a big fan of the guy who did get it so I hope he does really well. There's just a lot of things up in the air right now and very few of them seem to be working out the way I hoped they would have. Oh well, life moves on right?
